The main purpose of Softwrights Stop Button is to minimize the
time and steps it takes to issue the Shut Down command.
A double-check before exiting from anything is common practice... So
including a double-check was considered... But that meant adding
another step...which would come dangerously close to the hassle of the
standard way of shutting down.
For every one person who would benefit by a double-check before shutting down because of an accidental click on the Stop Button icon there are hundreds of others who would not benefit by a double-check... Instead, they benefit by the convenience of the one-click shutdown that Softwrights Stop Button provides.
Early designs included a Stop Sign Icon ... We even tried to squeeze the word "Stop" on the tiny 16 by 16 pixel icon size that is allowed in the Status area (Tray) of the Taskbar... But 16 pixels isn't enough to display the word "Stop" in an easy-to-read size... So a close-box-like "X" was used instead.
An octagonal (stop sign) shape doesn't look as prominent as the square that is currently used... That's why a Stop Sign shape isn't used.
The red color also helps it stand out... All these features (hopefully) minimize the chance of accidentally clicking on the icon.
