Softwrights Stop Button... How To Use the Program

This page is an online reference on how to use Softwrights Stop Button. Since the program is unusually easy to use, most people do not need to refer to this page. Remember: This program was designed to be self-explanatory

Shut Down Computer

Click once on the Softwrights Stop Button icon (red square with a white "X" inside) located in the Windows Status Area (the System Tray) of the Taskbar (bottom-right side of screen, near the clock).

Or, Right-Click on the Softwrights Stop Button icon to display the Options screen. Then, for the Action to perform next option, select "Shutdown computer... Same as clicking on Stop icon... Or 'Shut down' from Start button, Shut Down menu"

Note: The program automatically runs and installs the Softwrights Stop Button icon in the System Tray when you start your computer.

Restart (Reboot) Computer

Right-Click on the Softwrights Stop Button icon to display the Options screen.
Then, for Action to perform next select the "Restart (reboot) computer... Same as 'Restart' from Start button, Shut Down menu" option.

Display Options Screen

Right-Click on the Softwrights Stop Button icon (red square with a white "X" inside) located in the Windows Status Area (the System Tray) of the Taskbar (bottom-right side of screen, near the clock).
Or, from the Important Reminder screen, press the "Options" button.

Turn Important Reminder Screen On/Off

The Important Reminder screen automatically appears when the Softwrights Stop Button program starts... Until you turn it off.

To turn Important Reminder screen off...

Press the "Don't remind me anymore" button on the Important Reminder screen to erase the screen and to not display the screen each time your computer starts.
Or, Right-Click on the Softwrights Stop Button icon to display the Options screen. Then, For #1 Important Reminder option, select "OFF... Do NOT display important Reminder"

To turn Important Reminder screen back on...

Right-Click on the Softwrights Stop Button icon to display the Options screen.
Then, for #1 Important Reminder option, select "ON... Display Important Reminder when program starts"

Note: You can display the Important Reminder screen anytime... From the Options screen, select the "View Important Reminder Screen" option.

Unload Softwrights Stop Button From Memory

To unload the program from memory and remove the Softwrights Stop Button icon from the Tray...

Right-Click on the Softwrights Stop Button icon to display the Options screen.
Then, for the Action to perform next option, select "Exit...Unload Softwrights Stop Button from memory & remove Stop icon from System Tray"

From the Important Reminder screen or the Options screen, select the Web Link to the page on Softwrights Web site that you want from the WebLinks pull-down menu.... Your Internet Browser will display the page you chose.

Note: This options requires that you have a modem, an Internet service provider (ISP) account and browser software, like Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator that is setup to respond to the Windows command used by Softwrights Stop Button.

Send Email To Softwrights

From the Important Reminder screen or the Options screen, select "Send E-mail to Softwrights" from the Email pull-down menu.

Note: This option requires that you have a modem, an email account and email software, like Microsoft Outlook Express that is setup to respond to the Windows command used by Softwrights Stop Button.

Getting Nerd Information

From the Important Reminder screen or the Options screen, select the nerd information option that you want... from the NerdInfo pull-down menu.

Animation Options... Default & Using Your Own

Display License Agreement

From the Important Reminder screen or the Options screen, select the "License Agreement" option.

Animation Options

To change the built-in animation used in the program (Multimedia Edition only):

Right-click on Softwrights Stop Button icon to display the OPTIONS screen. Then select the pre-shutdown animation option that you want.

You have 5 pre-shutdown animation options:

OFF .. No animation ... No animation appears before shut down (just like in the Lite Edition).
ON ... Watch a baked good force Billy Brat to close his panes (19 sec, default option)
ON ... Watch short version of above baked good animation file (7 sec)
ON ... Watch shortest version of above baked good animation (4 sec)
ON ... Watch your own animation ... Plays sStopButton_custom.avi file that you can edit/replace yourself.

To use your own custom animation ... Name any .AVI file "sStopButton_custom.avi" and copy it to the same folder that Softwrights Stop Button is installed in (usually ... c:\Program Files\Softwrights Stop Button).

Note: To create/edit an .AVI file from scratch ... You'll need a program that can produce an animation in .AVI format. Some graphics (paint) programs and several animation creation programs can produce .AVI files.
